Swaraj Trophy – 1997/98
Purathur Grama Panchayat, located in Tirur Block, Tirur Taluk, Malappuram District, has received the Swaraj Trophy Malappuram District Award for the year 1997/98.
The Swaraj Trophy is an annual award instituted by the Government of Kerala for the best functioning local self-government institutions (grama panchayats, block panchayats, district panchayats, municipalities and corporations) in Kerala. Its main objective is to encourage the best performance of local self-government institutions and make them more efficient.

Development activities: Notable interventions in the health, education and social welfare sectors.
Financial discipline: Accuracy in the utilization of funds and excellence in audit reports.
Transparency and public participation: Activities in Gram Sabhas, Ward Sabhas and making information available to the public.
